Who is The Lady with the Books?
Hint: She said, “If the war is really over, if one is to believe in peaceful coexistence, the first message of peace will be these children’s books.”
She is also the subject of an upcoming book (by me) that members of IBBY-Canada got a peek into at the AGM in June.
Readers of the book will be introduced to Jella Lepman, founder of IBBY and the International Youth Library, through the story of a child who happens upon an exhibition Jella set up in Germany just after WWII — an exhibition of books from twenty countries, including some of Germany’s former enemies.
Can’t wait to see The Lady with the Books when Kids Can Press releases it next year? Go to the write-up about my AGM presentation in the IBBY-Canada Newsletter, for a sampling of text and of Marie Lafrance’s beautiful rough illustrations.

I so look forward to this book. I thank you for sharing the background information. Perhaps a launch in my Indigo/Yorkdale department will be a possibility? ———- Original Message ———-
