A Celebration of Poetry

celebrationPoetry is not a big part of my reading life, but that’s not to say it hasn’t been important – as evidenced in “An Intimate Examination of Sock Fluff”, a keynote I delivered at a conference a few years ago.

In 2015 Brick Books celebrates 40 years of publishing poetry in Canada with what promises to be a wonderful year-long conversation on their website.

In the first week alone, the conversation included articles about Margaret Avison presented by John B. Lee, James Reaney presented by his family, Anne-Marie Turza presented by Lorna Crozier, and Anne Hébert presented by André Vanasse.

Next week will feature an article by me. Check in at Brick Books – or my Twitter profile – to see which poet and poem I opted to feature. (If you’re a regular follower of my blog, my choice may not surprise you.)

Not a follower of my blog but would like to be? Just go to my website (if you’re not there already) and click on the white envelope in the upper right corner.

What a great idea! Poetry doesn't get nearly the attention that it deserves. I'll look forward to seeing your choice of poem and poet.

Hope you enjoyed it, Janet, now that it's up. Another I could have mentioned is Caroline Pignat, whose recent novel, The Gospel Truth, is written in free verse and multiple points of view. Is there a poem or poet you'd like to tell people about?
