Kathy Goes To Korea – A Slideshow

Big thanks to the Canadian Embassy in Korea for inviting me to participate in the Seoul International Book Fair! Great fun to meet some of my Korean readers and discover how thoroughly they have embraced Red Is Best, The Man with the Violin, King of the Castle, and What Happened to Ivy.

Thanks especially to Yoo-Kyung Choy, who organized school visits, meetings with the Ambassador and the Minister of Education, and a radio interview in Seoul, and took me and Sylvia McNicoll to her favourite restaurant for dinner and to the Namdaemun market; to Hye-Shin Kang, who organized a “Meet the Canadian Author” event and meetings with publishers and agents at the book fair; and to Jinsil Choi, who organized a family event and a meeting and dinner with Korean picture book writers at the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju. Friendlier and more helpful hosts a Canadian author abroad could not ask for.

Thanks also to other staff at the embassy, crucial interpreters, and teachers too numerous to name who contributed to my enjoyment of Korea, and of course thanks to all the great kids I met too. I loved hearing some of them read from my books in their language. Finally, thanks to MiKyung Soon and YouJin Lee, who contributed eight photos to the slideshow accompanying this post.

Love this Kathy! Great photos and memories. I should buy myself chopsticks and learn to eat with them for next time. We’re going to that volcanic island next time!

Thanks Sylvia. I’m in for the volcanic island!
