I’ve been aware of Doctors Without Borders for some time, but news updates about ebola in West Africa have reminded me recently of the importance of the work they do. I worry a lot about the well-being of the friends I made in Liberia working there as part of the Reading Liberia program a few years ago, who are themselves working to raise awareness of how to stop the spread of ebola and distributing books to kids while schools are closed.

My favourite local bookstore is holding an event to raise funds for Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières. Dr. James Orbinski will speak, there will be music, tickets are $50 (a tax receipt will be issued), and 100% of proceeds will go to DWF/MSF and 80% of their funds go to programs. If you are in the Guelph area on Saturday, November 22, please come out. I’ll hope to see you there.

Doctors Without Borders workers do work most of us are uncomfortable to even think about.

Please do what you can to support them.
